1.03 Daily Acts of Revelation

Rabbi Shira and Joshua discuss the giving of the Ten Commandments, and what it takes to be prepared for “revelation” in our lives. Then they kick back with actor-writer-director David Wain to discuss his connection to Judaism, and the Ten Commandments-inspired film he co-wrote and directed, “The Ten”.

Show notes:

1) Exodus 19:16-20

(16) On the third day, as morning dawned, there was thunder, and lightning, and a dense cloud upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the horn; and all the people who were in the camp trembled. (17) Moses led the people out of the camp toward God, and they took their places at the foot of the mountain. (18) Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke, for the LORD had come down upon it in fire; the smoke rose like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled violently. (19) The blare of the horn grew louder and louder. As Moses spoke, God answered him in thunder. (20) The LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain, and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain and Moses went up.

  1. Shuckling = spiritual stimming imho. You are also ridding yourself of worldly distractions by engaging your body in prayer in the same way that humming while reading cancels out your inner voice and allows you to process the words on the page faster. When we have mini moments of revelation we can see god in the trees or hear god in the vibrant hustle of the city. I think when we connect on a higher frequency we start to cross the boundaries of what we are able to process within the limitations of our known experience. Those moments of seeing thunder (Torah) or hearing shapes (Kandinsky) are liminal spaces of connection with something that we can't really know or understand. A glimpse of more. I love the podcast. It would be great to have a transcript available and also if you could not rush through the Hebrew so fast. I'm a pre-Jew. No giur trajectory just Jew-ish on a slow but sure path to being legit Jewish. Thanks!!

    1. Thanks for sharing! Great thoughts, and we appreciate the suggestions too. "Slow down" is good life advice altogether! We would like eventually to have transcripts available.

I’m still trying to figure out if my FitBit counts shokelling as steps…
